Quick Bits.

Hey folks, I just wanted to quickly follow up on some of the items we discussed in the last update.

  • I have updated the commander.ino script to use the DRV8825 enable pin. It now disables the motor completely when not in use. When the motor is disabled, the driver only pulls .005A and the stepper motor stays nice and cool. Very happy with the results! This update was pushed to the GitHub yesterday.

  • The enable/disable functionality is running off of pin A3, so it has been unlinked from the controller board’s “empty pin” breakout. A3 will no longer be available for use in custom add-ons by default. There are still plenty of extra pins for hacking, so no worries there.

  • I also updated a resistor(R1) and capacitor(C3) to use 0805 surface mount components instead of through hole.

  • I have sent the updated PCB with the new traces to the fab house and it should be ready to ship out to me within 12-24 hours. Here is a render:

Ok, that is all for now. Next proper update will be out on Sunday night. I’m working to have a few additional software updates released by then, as well as the admin topics I mentioned in the last update.

Thanks and see you soon!
