Update!

Hey folks, let’s get to it!

Raspberry Pi OS

Mugsy’s software is now built on top of the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS. The default install is running the 5/7/21 release and offers a lot of improvements over the older version of Raspbian we were running previously.

This means that Mugsy is now officially compatible with the Pi 4. Currently, only 32 bit mode is confirmed. At some point in the future we will offer 64 bit compatibility, but it is admittedly a low priority for the next few months.

New boot goofin’…

This also means that Mugsy’s is now running on Version 88 of Chromium. This is a significant update to Mugsy’s previous runtime. Interface speed and responsiveness has been drastically improved. Running the latest Chromium also allows us to use modern/standard coding methods for certain functionality that previously relied on hacks and bodges.

PCB Bits

As noted in yesterday’s quickie, the Eagle files for the PCB have been pushed to the Github repo. For folks who plan on rolling their own, I have also uploaded a parts spreadsheet.

This info is pulled directly from Eagle. Anyone who has used Eagle knows that it actively tries to ruin the user’s experience, so some of the descriptions/titles are not super obvious. I will update any info that is not clear in the next day or two.

Shipping Bits

  • Today I shipped a few of the new PCB’s to current beta kit users. These included JST wiring harnesses that I made in the shop, which leads nicely to the next point.

  • With the new PCBs, Mugsy’s wiring requirements have changed quite a bit. I currently have wiring harness being fabricated in bulk. These were ordered about 8 days ago and should be heading to me shortly. I expect they will be delivered anywhere from 4-8 days from now. Once they get here I will be shipping kits.

The Next Few Days

  • I will continue to focus on finishing up software testing and fixes. My goal is to have a runtime and os release this upcoming week.

  • At some point in the next 3-4 days I will be filming a complete build from scratch. This will act as a stop gap until the more focused build vids are completed.

  • I will be taking Sunday off and Monday is a holiday here in the states. I expect to be working on Mugsy on Monday, but I may be slow to respond to emails until Tuesday.

  • Next update will be going out on Tuesday.

Cheers!
