Quick Update

Hey folks hope all is well out there! Here are the bits:

Pump Findings:

Last week’s flow tests ended up with me taking a bit of a detour to test some other pump types. I wanted to try to resolve a few issues I was continually running into with the 2x peristaltic pump setup. Namely, having to push the motor by quite a bit to overcome the pulsing nature of these pumps. This resulted in a smooth flow, but at a higher pressure than ideal for the pour over.

I had a 12v diaphragm pump that I had been meaning to test for a while and wired it up to see how things looked. The flow improvement is pretty shocking. Additionally, there is a larger usable PWM range that can be used to dial in a much wider range of flow rates.

I’ve just been testing with the bench supply while waiting for some spout parts for the new tube size (5mm ID). These arrived today and I'm currently redesigning the spout arm to hold the single output. Once that’s done we will test with Mugsy’s actual DRV8871 pump controller. I will have some vids up showing these brew tests on Monday.

This current pump tops out at 167° but I have sourced ones that are spec’d for the required temps. These pumps are frequently used in coffee machines and are widely available. I will have one of the high temp pumps on hand tomorrow with more inbound next week.

If all goes as expected, I will likely be using this pump and sidelining the peristaltic pumps.

Other Bits:

  • Frontend baseline repo will go up on the GitHub tomorrow. I added a link to the repos in the main nav so no need to go hunting for it.

  • Not much movement on software this last week, but will be picking that up after the remaining pump tests tomorrow.

  • I also have not yet updated remaining tasks/timelines, I will make sure to complete this in time for Wednesday’s update.

There will be a quick update on Monday with some brew demos, and a full length update going out on Wednesday.

Cheers!
