EU VAT Info

Hey Folks, hope everyone has had a great weekend so far! I want to quickly go over the EU VAT info now that I have sorted out most of the details.

The big picture items:

  • Since Mugsy is being shipped directly to a distribution center and then shipped to backers, the VAT is handled on the initial import for the freight shipment total. This means that in the vast majority of cases, backers in the EU will not incur any additional fees when receiving their units.

  • Some backers have stated that you can declare the item as a gift since it is technically a reward, and this will remove any fees. Although this was somewhat correct for a time, governments are now hip to it and consider Kickstarter orders as standard sales. Any attempt to circumvent these fees is fraud and we will not vary declarations to purposely minimize them. This statement is not meant to point any fingers at anyone who has offered advice, as EU import regulations are constantly shifting and what was once sound advice can completely flip on very short notice. I always appreciate hearing thoughts and experience when I’m doing something new, so I hope people will continue to offer their advice.

  • Some regions in the EU may have slightly different regulations so the first point may not be true for you. If you live in a region with different regs, you will receive an email within the next week detailing those differences. Once that info is consolidated it will also be shared in an update.

  • I'm by no means an expert on international shipping regs and they are exceedingly deep. This info is best effort and is subject to change if new info becomes available. That being said, I believe it is correct for the vast majority of EU backers.

Shipping specific items:

  • 57 units from the 8/22-8/23 window will be heading out Tuesday. The remaining units will be heading out on the 28th and 29th.

  • The shipping worksheet has been partially updated, with the rest of the updates going live in the next 24 hours.

  • It will be another 48-72 hours before tracking numbers starts going out again.
