Brew/Ship

Hey folks, going to jump right in. Some of tonight's info was shared on an FB post last night but is included here for those of you who may have missed it.

Brew.

Dev Mugsy is now Demo Mugsy and this little robot is excited to finally be put to work:

I have a couple of things to finish before I can say this unit is 100% set it and forget. I expect to be there after this weekend. That being said, I am now brewing all of my coffee with Mugsy and I am really pleased with the results.

I did discover a couple of bugs once I started brew demos:

  • The servo code allows the water spout to overshoot the cone in certain circumstances. This results in a small leak from the pour over mechanism. I have added some angle limiting checks as a quick fix and it is now good to go.

  • The relay latches are powered by the Pi's 5v. When more than two relays are operating at once, the switches may not actually fire. This is a fairly common issue but is one that has not come up previously in Mugsy development. The fix is a simple one, just moving a wire from one terminal to another terminal so it is powered by the 5v supply. It doesn't require any additional parts.  I will have more details on this fix later in the week when I send out the Build Manual update.

  • I need some decaf stat. Even with just sipping a bit from each cup I'm damn near 8 cups by the end of the day. Ouch.

I need to record a bunch more demos over the next couple of days, specifically one that includes water filling, bean filling, and cleaning all in one shot. I didn't have the room to do so today and will probably not get to it tomorrow either. Thursday looks like the first day I'll have room to jump on Mugsy for a full night shift so will plan on sending them out then.

Shipping Updates

The first batch of FBA transitions is moving along without issue. All units are sidelined and expected to hit the shipping partner during the overnight and into tomorrow. I'm 50/50 on whether they will ship tomorrow so will keep everyone posted on the social channels.

Other bits:

  • I'm holding directs from here in Astoria for another 24-48 hours. I'm on a code sprint for the day job until tomo evening and don't think I can realistically focus on all the details until that is complete. I'm shooting for Thursday but allowing myself until Friday.

  • If things continue as expected with the FBA transition to direct, I will start hitting the remaining FCs. The next one will be EU based and start with the German FCs. I'm going to start the initial planning for this on Thursday. The German units would be sidelined and ready for shipping next Wednesday/Thursday. Best case scenario for EU units to start hitting the ground would be 10-14 days from right now. I will have initial progress reports on the EU batch in Friday's update.

  • I'm not sure on how quickly the ramp up for the remaining FCs will go. I think we should be able to  start getting multiple batches out in one push but want to learn a bit more before I over extend expectations. I will be having the discussions that will inform these details on Thursday and they will be included in Friday's update.

  • Starting next week I will be jumping back into the bulk of the unshipped units. Going to roll back qty to 15-30 twice a week to start to keep it from getting out of my hands. Once that is firing well we can discuss increasing quantities.

Housekeeping Bits

  • I have a bit of a backlog on tickets right now as well as some q/a. It will probably be another 24-36 hours before I have 100% of tickets and community q/a responded too.

  • Friday's update will mostly focus on the build manual and additional brew/functionality demos. I plan on having a few hours on Friday to work on assembled units so will have some new things to show there as well.

  • I will be slow to respond to contacts until tomorrow night and possibly into Thursday morning due to the day job code sprint.

Ok, thats all for now. I will be sharing more demos on the social channels tomo and Thursday so keep an eye on the usual spots for those.  They will also be included in Friday's update.

Hope all is well on your end! Things feel really good over here at Argyle Labs these days and I really appreciate all of your support.

Cheers,

-m
