Q&A Bits

Hey folks! Tonight I wanted to hit some overall wide-view questions that have come up regarding progress. One of our community members posted this list and I think his questions are good start to clear up some details.

The Bits

1. What coffee machine do you use to make your daily coffee?

Not a Mugsy. I typically have one unit in my apartment, and it is more often than not in some state of disassembly while testing or working on different functions.

2. Is Mugsy in its current state ready to use out of the box? If not, what's needed?

I would say no, currently the main issues are:

  • Software: Although each function is completed and each individual section of the software works, there is not a fully integrated runtime that combines all of these functions in a seamless manner.

  • Hardware: The only blocker on the hardware side is the wiring harness and the main controller PCB. The first run of PCBs is CNC’d and the manner in which the wiring harness connects to the PCB is just not as robust as required. The resolution for this is in progress, but we are at least a week away from having the proper fabricated PCBs.

3. How many DIY Kits (not just some parts) have been shipped to real people?

Three. But these are not community members. They are people I was/am attempting to get manufacturing assistance from.

4. How many units are in FBA?

Currently zero.

5. In which state is the manual?

50-60% completed.

6. How many people are helping you at the current state with Mugsy?

  • Manufacturing, design, development, testing: 0

  • Guidance, business management, mentorship: 1 (Covid restrictions have greatly reduced the hands-on aspect of this relationship.)

  • Packing/Shipping: 2 ( But until we are shipping, they are basically on standby.)

Other Bits

  • I will have additional details on some of the above points in this weekends update.

  • Refund Info: For folks who have requested a refund, processing times are longer than I would like them to be by a wide margin. It has become more difficult in recent months to convert the parts that the purchase paid for back into liquid funds. Some of this difficulty is due to Covid restrictions, some of it to policy changes. Previously I would resell a cancelled order to someone familiar with the project to convert the funds. But as the delay has grown, I think it’s best to not resell cancelled units until we make real and verifiable progress on shipments. This process is in flux and I am working to improve it to get back to standard 5-10 business day turnaround times.

  • Live Q and A Session: I know this will do a lot of good to clear the air and bring more eyes into the project so I am making this a priority. It will happen within 1-2 weeks of today. Probably a Sunday. I am still working out details on format as I want to make it as useful as possible. I will be reaching out to a couple of community members to help organize this in the coming days. They will be folks who are active on the forum and Discord and who are able to act as a liaison between me and the community at large. This will help maximize the impact of the session and make sure we cover the most important questions and concerns.

  • This will hit the KS page within 24 hours.

OK, that is all for now. Next update will be on Sunday.

Thanks!
